Common questions
What is the difference between the App Store and AltStore versions?
The App Store version sticks to 4chan's work-safe boards. The AltStore version is the same app, plus a setting that lets you turn on NSFW boards if you want them. That setting starts off, so the AltStore version behaves the same way until you change it.
If you are not sure which you want, the App Store version is the easier install and the one most people should pick.
Can I post or reply from PocketChan?
Yes. There is a native composer built into the app, so you can write a reply, attach an image or video, and post it without switching to a browser. 4chan's verification opens in a sheet inside the app when it is needed, and your drafts are saved as you type. If you would rather use 4chan's web form, you can turn on the browser option under Settings, then Posting.
Where do my posts go?
Straight to 4chan. Replies you have made are listed under My posts in the History tab so you can find your way back to them.
Why is a board or thread missing?
Threads that have fallen off the catalog are gone from the live API, though many boards keep an archive you can still open. It is also worth checking your keyword filters and hidden threads. If a whole category of boards is missing, see the first question above.
Thumbnails stopped loading. What happened?
Check low-bandwidth mode first, under Settings, then Data & Storage. It skips every thumbnail on purpose, in catalogs and in threads alike, and shows a placeholder instead. Full-resolution media still loads once you open the image itself. That is by far the most common cause.
Otherwise, 4chan rate-limits its API. PocketChan spaces out its requests to stay within the limits, but if you hit one, wait a minute and try again.
I am on iOS 16 and there is no widget. Why?
The home screen widget needs iOS 17. PocketChan itself runs on iOS 16.4 and later, so on iOS 16 everything works except the widget.
Is my data synced anywhere?
No. Favorites, watched threads, drafts, and history live only on the device that created them.

Content you would rather not see
From any post you can:
- Hide that single post.
- Mute the whole thread so it disappears from the catalog.
- Block that poster ID for the board you are on.
- Add a keyword filter under Settings, then Content Controls.
Everything you have hidden can be reviewed or restored later from that same Content Controls screen.
To report a post, open its menu and choose Report. That opens 4chan's own report form for that post.
PocketChan does not host or moderate anything on 4chan, and cannot remove a post from it, so reports go to 4chan, who can.
